Mogkok : choose your hotel - how to go to Mogkok - Myanmar

Access to Mogkok is still totally closed for touristes, you can still read the Kessel books about Mogkok.
You can get access to Mogkok only for valid and serious professionnal reason and you need to apply (one month in advance) a special authorisation.

We do not know when the access for the tourist to Mogkok will be restablished.

Driving to Mogkok :

The access at Mogkok is only by car, the best option is to drive from Mandalay, it is a 7h drive, the road is not in so bad conditions. The countryside is nice,, with forest on the hilly part.
Avoid the road from Kayuk Me which is bad and dangerous.
The road from Bhamaw is long and in very bad condition.

Hotels in Mogkok

Unfortunately, there is only one hotel operating in Mogkok after the owner of the Golden Butterfully has been caught smulging teak wood... and then been send in jail. It was a nice hotel with huge wooden chalet located 10 minutes before Mogkok on a hill with a superbe view on the city.
Now, we have to go to the Mogkok hotel.....

If you are lucky to be able to Mogkok (for professionnal reason only), you will have to stay at the Mogkok hotel. it is a "modern" building, down town, near the lake.
Rooms are small, old, bathooms are clean but very very simple. The overall impression is quite bad, especially because it is more or less totally empty.
Unforgetable breakfast...try not to have your lunch or diner here.
