Close view of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon
(Myanmar)

Close view of the Shwedagon pagoda. Regularly, toward 6.00 in the morning, monks go up
on the pagoda to inspect it and to clean it. The monk's size on the photo gives an idea
of the height of the Shwedagon pagoda. The Shwedagon pagoda is covered entirely with gold
(about 6 tons and more of 5 000 karats of diamonds and rubies). The Shwegadon pagoda shelters
the relics of Buddha returned by 2 Burmese brothers 2 500 years ago. At first, the relics
have been inserted in one first small pagoda that still exists nowaday. It is situated close to the main
current pagoda. It is one of the major sites of Burma that justifies the journey in Myanmar.
Even though you are on vacation in Thailand, make a short 3 days trip to visit Yangon and Bago,
you won't be disappointed.
