A new airline is desserving Yangon from HongKong twice a week, every Tuesday and Friday.

"London Market Aviation Insurer of our lesser (Lion Air) had given MAI a notice that this aircraft MD82 A/C PK-LMY which we have been using in service for our Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur sectors is not fully covered for war and allied perils in accordance with AV52E, due to the recent crisis in Myanmar.
Therefore, MAI hereby inform you that 8M operating flights by MD82 A/C PK-LMY services to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur has been suspended from 11 October 2007 (Thursday) until end of October 2007.
Meanwhile, we are in the process of getting new aircraft replacement for our Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur service sectors.
For the convenience of our passengers effecting on these flight sectors, please contact our MAI Reservations and Ticketing Offices for transfer arrangement on to other carriers for the same route sectors and other possible assistance.
Our current service to Singapore operating with our code share partner 3K (Jetstar) with Airbus A320 will remain the same."
New Low cost airline desserving Yangon from Bangkok - Air Asia.
Since July 2006, Air Asia is desserving Yangon from Bangkok one time per day. It is a good, very cheap low cost company. Now Thai Airways prices have decreased also. Good New.
If you book long time in advance, you may get a one way ticket for only 15 USD (+ airport taxe), it is a very good deal.
Be careful, your luggage weight limit is 15 KG and they implement it very stricly.

Air Bagan - international (update 30-october-2007)
Air Bagan will cancel all its international flights after the 4th Novembre 2007 due to USA sanctions.
Domestics flights are not affected.
Domestic air ticket information.
- Local airlines are not flexible at all if you may need to modify your plane ticket or try to get a refund. Usually, they ask you to buy a new ticket first and then to try to get refund at the main office in Yangon.
- During your journey in Myanmar and EVEN if you have a valid issued ticket, always double check if the airline has modified the schedule. Air Mandalay is a "'specialist" for modifiying the air schedule on weekly basis....
- Do not try to catch a domestic flight the same day that you are arriving in Yangon with an International flight (especially from Singapore).
It occurs regularely that planes are late or even cancel. You will miss your domestic connexion, you will need to pay a night in Yangon, a new plane ticket (if you get lucky to find a seat the next morning...). A lot of trouble. Better to stay one night in Yangon at the arrival and departure.
