Bagan has a lot of small hotels and motels, and also some
splendid hotels directly on the Irrawaddy river. Be carefull,
because there is also a lot of "very average" hotel
or even bad and for the same price or cheaper you can get
very good motel, guest house.
If you can, pamper yourself
and take a suite along the Irrawaddy river or at a nice 4 stars hotels on site.

Even if the next season looks quiet (at today may 2009), it is always better to book long time if advance for the best hotels, such as Tharabar gate hotel, Sakura hotel or even smaller hotel.
Peak periods are :
- Novembre
- Xmas - New year (very difficult to find a room in 3 stars and 4 stars hotel).
- February.
Hotel in Bagan in march - April - May.
It is very hot to extremely hot in Bagan in April and May, with very often temperature above 40 C° and up to 44 C° or more.
Electricity is very scarce in Bagan, most of the hotels have generators but the small hotels (1, 2 and even 3 stars hotels) do not start the generator during day time, only after 5 or 6 PM.
So it could be very very hot in your room.
For these hot months, it could be a very good idea to put some extra money and to stay at a good 4**** hotel, or an hotel with a real swimming pool.

Golden Express hotel
Category : 2 star with swimming pool
Located along the road from Old Bagan to Nyaung Oo, (the street
is very quiet), this hotel looks like a big "motel".
Rooms are always clean, the deluxe and superior rooms are
quite good. It is not a charming hotel but it has a good quality
price ratio, the location is good. A reasonnable choice in
Bagan for this category.

Yar Khin Thar hotel
Category :1-2 star (no swmming pool).
Located in Nyuang Oo village, in a very nice quarter full
of restaurant and near the beautifull Shwezigon pagoda that
you must visit at night. The brand new deluxe room totally
made in hard wood are really a very good value, very nice
rooms and very quiet. our favorite rooms in Nyaung Oo for
this king of hotel.
(standard rooms are very cheap and very correct also for the
price).

| Arthawka Hotel
Category : 2 stars hotel.
A little far from Bagan (the hotel is at New Bagan), it is nevertheless a good choice. Big swimming pool, big room (with a lot less charm than the Thanzin Garden but the prices are not the same). Very correct. A good choice.

Bagan Thandwe Hotel
Category : 2 -3 stars.
The Bagan Thandwe is one of the first hotel built in Bagan (more than 60 years ago). Very well located on the shore of the Irrawaddy River, next to the Bagan Hotel and Bagan Museum. Deluxe river view rooms are a very good choice.

Located in
new Bagan in a very quiet area, it is a nice and friendly small hotels. Rooms are small but confortable, staff very nice, and the roof top restaurant will give you a very nice view on Bagan. Very pleasant for the breakfast.

Bagan Golf Hotel
Category : 4 stars
Located along the Bagan gold course, it is a very good, quiet 4 stars hotel with very good deluxe and suite rooms. The Amazing group has took over the management of the hotel in APril 2009 and renovated the rooms. It is a good news as Amazing group manage its hotels very well, with a very good service. Rooms are really nice, 2009-2010 prices are very agressive, very attractive and this is an hotel we definitively recommand.

Kaday Aung hotel
Category : 2 stars
Small two star hotel, located in New Bagan (it is the only "problem"). It is a very good place to stay and relax. A lot of trees, very calm, small swimming pool and very good prices for a wide range of room, standard, superior and "suite". A very good choice for this price and category.

New park hôtel
Category: 1-2 stars
it used to be our favourite hotel in this quarter more than 10 years ago, now after nice renovation and upgrade of the rooms, it is still one of our favourite in this quarter of Bagan (probably the best quarter to stay for budget hotel, it is the only place in Bagan with something to do in the evening). Prices are good, rooms very nicely renovated, quarter is very quiet, the hotel is perfectly located near many nice restaurants. A very good place to stay.
