Discover myanmar ethnic groups - short trek and hikes in Myanmar countryside.

Myanmar has 137 ethnic group (at least..) and a lot of dialects and languages. It is quite easy while travelling in Myanmar to meet people from many various ethnic group. If you go to a local market, it will be easy to meet people from Mon, Shan, Karen, Myanmar ethnic group.
but if you want to meet and discover ethnic group in more remote area, or ethnic group you can not meet in the Myanmar easily accessible place, you have to travel a little to more "out of track" places".
It is easy in Myanmar to visit villages where people still use traditionnal dress, keep alive their traditionnal way of life.

Notes:

We present here some hikes and easy trek to discover the ethnic group of Myanmar without any important physical effort. You will need to walk between 30 minutes to 2h per day, usually access in the villages is easy, it is easy to climb BUT even if it is easy it is not suitable for people with knee problem.
Only one group of village is far from the road and request a 5 hours walk. We do not usually propose to go theses villages to people who do not want to walk or make a real trek.

Accomodation is always (below) at a hotel, not in a monastery or private house.

This is really a very interesting place to discover authentic ethnic group (Akkha, Loi, Ann, Lisu etc;.). It is a place you must visit before the way of life in this area change too much (currently, it is far to be a show like in Thailand, it is the real daily life of the people).
Except for one trek which requires 4 to 5 hours walk, all the hike and trek are very easy.

- Very good security.
- Walking time : 30 minutes to 2 h per day (one place only = 15 hours).
- A lot of ethnic group : Loi, Akkha, Ann, Lisu, Shan, .... in their authentic way of life.
- Access possible by car from the Thai Border.
- Accomodation in hotel at Kentung.
- No need special permit.
- Nice an fresh countryside from Octobre to February.
-Very interesting Buddhist New year (12-17 April).

Mrauk U and Sittwe are really two very interessting place to visit. It is very different from other part of Myanmar, you will have the opportunity to discover a world class archeological site and the ethnic group Chin, Arakan and small sub-group in the area.
If you have time, it is a must place to go :

- Easy access by plane from Yangon,
- Stop possible to Ngapali beach on the way back to Yangon (most of the plane stop at Nagpali).
- Chin, Arakan Ethnic group.
- Superb and exceptional archeological site of Mrauk U
- Sittwe, lost city where it worh to walk around.
- Chin villages that you reach after a short cruise from Mrauk U in a local small boat, we strongly recommend this excursion.
- Access at Mrauk U by boat.

It is a superbe and still uncommon place to go. You will be able to sleep in Chin villages and discover the daily way of life of Chin tribes. We should not put these treks in this web page, as it requires good knees and some efforts (need to walk quite a lot), but the place is so interesting, we wanted to be sure, you did not miss it...
