| Choose your hotel in Yangon ? (Myanmar

With the increase of arrival in tourist, hotels prices in Myanmar have increased a lot, especially in Yangon where hotels prices have more than triple within the last 2 years.
You should not compare with what you can get in Thailand or elsewhere in Asia, prices range is from 20-25 USD (very rare) to 625 USD or more (Governor's).
Most former 2-3 stars hotel (use to be the main stream of cheap hotels) are now in the range of 50 to 120 USD. You can still find some guest houses around 25-30 USD but for that price you get something that should be in Thailand at 10 USD.
It seems that it will stay like this for the next coming two years.
Have a look at the new modern (not charming) hotels, they are also expensive but at least you get something brand new....

Governor's Residence (Ex Pansea)

Probably the most charming hotel in Myanmar or at least in Yangon. 2 hectares garden in the best quarter, a beautiful colony style house, a very good French restaurant. Some rooms have been renovated in 2007 and are in good condition, othes rooms seriously need a renovation. Choose it for the colonial charm, garden, and atmosphere.
Prices rise sharply for 2013-2014 seasons but it is always full....

Strand hotel

Good quality hotel apartment (with kitchen). Nicel swimming
pool, gym club.
Rooms are big, a little far from the city center and no garden.
Long stay price are interesting or prices for familly appartment
are very good also ( 2 rooms with kitchen, lounge, 2 bathroom....).

Grand Plaza Park Royal Yangon

A very good center city hotel, located very near of theAung
Saung market and the Sulé pagoda, few minutes from
Shwedagon pagoda. Very good " afternoon tea ", service
and quality of the rooms impeccable. All the services from
a very good 4 stars hotel but prices triple compare to the same hotel, same brand in Thailand... It is a good hotel nevertheless.

Dusit Inya Lake Hôtel

Located on the Inya lake,absolutely quiet, facing the sunset on the lake. Very very relaxing place. The architecture is little too "cold"
(it is not at all a charming hotel) but it is a good 4 stars hotel , with a big swimming pool facing the lake, all services of a big hotel (gym, business center, internet). A little far from the city center.
Rooms are still quite simple compare to other hotels, but prices remains not too high and the surroundings are really nice.

An excellent
small 4 stars hotel located near the Shwedagon pagoda (from the outside bar you have a nice view on the pagoda). Most of the rooms are facing the big swimming (it is more quiet), rooms are very well decorated, very well maintained. It is a very good 4 stars hotel. |
